I GRADUATED!!!

Today, I became a member of the Univeristy of Houston-Victory Alumni. I have finally graduated from college!!!!! I am hoping to post some pictures the next few days... gotta them from my mom! Kyle let her take all the pics so he could deal with the kids!

I still can't believe this day has already came and gone. It feels like I have been in school for so long - it's hard to believe that there won't be any more exams, studying, papers, etc.

Not the answer I was looking for, but I will Rejoice!

I have been having a lot of issues with this old version of Blogger. I need to figure out how to upgrade to the newer version or I will have to just start a new one. I have tried to post several times this past month but I couldn't get the formatting to work or pictures to load. So, I am going to try again...

Right before the new year, I decided to "expose myself to the world." I posted an awful picture of myself showing how much weight I had gained. I knew I needed to lose weight but just didn't know how. Over the past few months, I have really struggled with trying to lose weight. I have lost a few, then gained them back, lost them again, gained them back, etc.

So, from my starting weight, I am now down 22 pounds and 2 pant sizes!! Even though it should be more than this because of all the bouncing back and forth I did, I have to rejoice at this lost. I would also like to share something with you that has worked for me and offer you some encouragement.

Last week, my mentor teacher told me she was starting "The 17 Day Diet." I had no idea what it was so I ordered the e-book for $11.99. This diet does not last 17 days. It has cycles that are 17 days long to confuse your body and not get stuck in the same routine. I tried to do it, but of course I got off track the first 2 days. So, I prayed for the Lord to help give me strength to just get through a week to break those compulsive habits. Well, I got a severe allergy attack. From Monday-Thursday I could not smell or taste ANYTHING. No joke. I stuck my nose in a cup of raw onions and could not smell them. So my thought was, why "cheat" if I can't even enjoy it!? This was definitely not the answer that I was expecting, but it did help.

In the past 6 days of being on the diet, I have lost 6 pounds. I have not starved myself nor felt deprived. I have also not exercised because I have been sick. So, 6 pounds down was based on healthy eating choices.

The 17 Day Diet has taught me what to eat, why to eat it and when to eat. It has taught me why certain fruits and vegetables can hinder weightloss. If you have struggled with weightloss, I definitely recommend this book. It is a quick, easy read and easy to follow. I have been making vegetable soups every week so that I don't "ruin" raw veggies with salad dressing.

So, I defnitely have the motivation that I needed to continue! I may not be skinny by summer like I had hoped, but I know one day I will be! If you are struggling with weight loss, let's struggle together and be each other's motivation.

Love,
Tammy

HELP!

Does anyone know how to upgrade Blogger? I believe I have the old version because when I created my newer one a few months back, it did not look the same as this blog. I have been trying to post but have been having a lot of issues with this program. when I go to publish, it takes out all of my spacing and makes 1 big paragraph. When I try to add pics, it takes forever and I can only do one at a time. (On my newer blog, I could do multiple at a time.) If you could please help, I would so greatly appreciate it. If not, I will just have to delete this blog and then start over with a new one. :(

Reflections

Tomorrow I am starting my second student teaching placement. I just completed my placement in 1st grade - 1 class, every subject all day. Tomorrow I will start in 5th grade math. I believe I will have 4 math class a day.

As I approach another milestone tomorrow, I have completed a journal on my thoughts on my experience so far. I would like to share with you a segment of my journal:

I don't just want to be a teacher. I want to make a difference in children's lives. When I first started student teaching, I was really paranoid about the kids hugging me because I am a germaphobe and worried about getting sick. However, after getting to know many of the kids, I felt my motherly instinct kick in. I felt like some of those kids needed a hug and needed that motherly attention because many of the children do not get instruction and love at home. I can definitely say that I left my 1st grade placement feeling like I had made a difference in many of those children's lives.

There was one little boy in particular who I feel like I had an impact on. He always had a chip on his shoulder. He never wanted to be silly. He never wanted to laugh. He never wanted to smile. He also got mad very easily. He was one of my "projects." I always made an extra effort to reach him. On my last day, the boy who never showed emotions, other than anger, said to me: "I don't want you to leave! Why do you have to go?" and then he gave me a hug. At that point, I was 100% sure that being a teacher is my calling. I knew right then that I had made a difference in his life.

As I have previously mentioned, I am currently in a Title 1 school. I have always thought that I want to work in a Title 1 school but now after being in one, I know that type of school is exactly where I NEED to be. I don't just want to be an educator. I want to be role model and I want to make a difference.

checking in!

It's hard to believe it has been nearly a month since I have posted! To be quite honest, I seldom get on the computer these days and when I do, it is usually to look up things for school.

This Friday, I will complete my first student teaching placement. I have been in first grade since January 18th. When I return after spring break, I will be in 5th grade math. It is such a bitter sweet feeling. I am excited to be in a math classroom and also experience the older kids, as well as be with a teacher who I have heard is great. However, I am very sad to leave my teacher who I have grown very close with, as well as the kids who I have gotten to know very well. I never imagined I would have such an amazing experience and such a wonderful mentor. The bar is definitely set for my second placement. ;)

I never thought I would like the young grades THIS much. I was worried that being around little kids all day and then coming home to little kids would be too much for me. I didn't think I had the energy for it. However, because I have little kids, I feel like I have the perfect personality and energy for those little ones. I would actually be excited to be in a young grade now! I was also terrified of teaching kids to read but it has actually come really naturally for me. Prior to January, I said I could never teach just reading and writing, I have to have math. I do not feel that any way. So, I am definitely curious to see if my feelings change about the older kids and math, which I think I love. :)

So that's it for now... gotta get in bed - 5am comes early!

p.s. I did not proofread before posting so please excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes!
